7 surprising facts about The Curious Piano Teachers

Did you know that The Curious Piano Teachers will be celebrating its 5th birthday in May? Yes, it’s 5 years since our doors were first opened and we welcomed our very first teachers.

The Curious Piano Teachers

Like any healthy organisation things have continued to grow and change since 2015 whilst our core values of helping to connect and educate piano teachers across the world has remained the same.

#1 THE CURIOUS BOOK CLUB

The Curious Book Club is run by members of the Community. Every two months readers vote for what’s next. At the moment we are all busy reading Speaking the Piano by UK pianist Susan Tomes.

#2 PEN PAL PUPILS

Some of our Community members across the world have connected their pupils via a pen pal programme. It’s all carefully vetted and monitored but is proving quietly popular

#3 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Every month our Community Manager Hannah features and celebrates a member of The Community with a Member Spotlight. It gives everyone the opportunity to find out a little more about some of our amazing members. For example, Community member Dr Kris Worsley teaches across a wide range of music education places including conservatoires, however, he is also a wild-life photographer. In this video he beautifully combines these two areas of his life.

#4 RESOURCES FOR INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED STUDENTS

Contrary to popular belief many of our Curiosity Boxes focus on how to teach intermediate and advanced level students. This January for example we are exploring how to introduce and teach intermediate level rhythmical concepts such as dotted crotchets and semiquavers.

#5 THE FOUR PILLARS OF PIANO TEACHING

The Four Pillars of Piano Teaching are the backbone of our work. You’ll be able to find out more later in Spring 2020 when we’ll be releasing our free e-book Power-Up Your Piano Teaching.

#6 FRAMEWORKS

The Piano Framework and the Teaching Framework are two invaluable documents exclusively available to members of The Community. They help to provide coherence, structure and guidance to our teaching lives.

#7 90-DAY PIANO TEACHING CHALLENGE

Some teachers in The Community are just completing the 90-Day Piano Teaching Challenge. They will become our very first Certified Curious piano teachers in February 2020.

This has been terrific. I’m in the middle of the various goals, and although I have only completed one I’ve watched the videos apart from stage 6. The 90-Day Piano Teaching challenge has been a massive kickstarter. Sharon, member of The Curious Piano Teachers.
